Library Terminals Use Policy

The John M. Pfau Library provides access to materials for research and academic use as well as a physical environment which is conducive to scholarship. To this end, the library provides computer terminals to facilitate research. In consultation with the Information Security Office at CSUSB, the library does not allow unlimited, anonymous use of its computer terminals.

CSUSB Students, Faculty, and Staff

  • Login is: Your MyCoyote login.
  • Which terminals: Reference area, PL-1003, PL-111, upper floors of the library.
  • Web access: Unlimited.
  • Additional software: MS Office 2007, and SPSS 17.
  • Account is active: As long as you are enrolled or employed.

Guests: Pfau Library Associates or CSUSB Alumni Association Members

  • Login is: Created at the Check-Out Desk.
  • Which terminals: Reference area only.
  • Web access: Unlimited.
  • Additional software: None; standard web plug-ins only (Adobe Reader, etc.).
  • Account is active: As long as membership is active.

Paid members of the Pfau Library Associates or the CSUSB Alumni Association may activate their Guest Accounts when they sign up for their library cards at the Check-Out Desk. Individuals under the age of 18 must complete a Parental Permission Form.

Sorry, guests cannot login to library databases from off campus.

Guests: General Public

  • Login is: Created at the Check-Out Desk.
  • Which terminals: Reference area only.
  • Web access: Unlimited.
  • Additional software: None; standard web plug-ins only (Adobe Reader, etc.).
  • Account is active: For one week from date of issue.
  • Other limitations: A user may have one Guest Account per CSUSB academic quarter.

Members of the general public may apply at the Check-Out Desk for one Guest account per CSUSB academic quarter. To apply, fill out the Guest Account form and present it along with a current photo I.D. such as a driver's license or passport. Individuals under the age of 18 must complete a Parental Permission Form.

Guests: Anonymous users

  • Login is: Posted on terminals.
  • Which terminals: Reference area only.
  • Web access: Restricted to the following:
    • Pfau Library's online subscriptions, such as research databases, journals, and ebooks.
    • All Web sites in the .edu (educational) domain.
    • All Web sites in the .gov (government) and .mil (military) domains, in keeping with our status as a Government Documents depository library.
    • Selected other Web sites chosen for significant research value.
  • Additional software: None; standard web plug-ins only(Adobe Reader, etc.).
  • Account is active: Continuously.

Conditions of Use: All Users

  • Files saved to the desktop are not retained past the current login session. Save files to an external storage device such as a USB drive.
  • Users are responsible for protecting the integrity of their own logins. Always logout when finished, and do not share your username or password with others.
  • Any user may request a search for electronic Government Documents by one of the Reference librarians.
  • Users may not alter or tamper with the normal functioning of any library-provided computer equipment or system.
  • The library does not filter Web sites based on content. In keeping with campus policy, the library strives to create a learning environment free from hostility or harassment. Because all computer screens are visible to the public, users shall not view Web sites that display offensive material. This may include material that the user does not find personally offensive.
  • The library assumes no responsibility for user damages incurred due to viruses, malware, or other corrupted files.
  • The library reserves the right to revoke user privileges at any time based on misuse of those privileges, failure to abide by the library's Code of Conduct, or failure to abide by the CSUSB Acceptable Use Policy for Electronic Communications.
