Finding a Book on the Shelf.
After you search the Pfau Library Catalog and find out the library has a book you need, how do you locate it on the shelf?
Write down the whole call number, which is the "address" for a book. Be sure to write down the floor location too! We'll use this example: PS 648.S3 A4436 1994, 4th floor.
You will look alphabetically for the letters and numerically for the numbers until you use up the entire call number.
Take the elevator to the correct floor. Find the section that matches the first letters of the call number. The letters are indicated by signs on the ends of the rows. We're looking for the letters "PS." Next, find the row that matches the first number, in our case, 648. (You will need to look at the labels on the spines of the books to determine which numbers are in each row.) Now that we've found PS 648, we're getting closer! These are books that match the first part of the call number.
Now start looking for the next letter and number. First, look for S3, then A4436. Once you match the last letter, number, and date (1994), you've found your book. (This book, by the way, is titled "Alien Pregnant by Elvis.")
Use your Coyote OneCard to check out the book at the Circulation Desk on the first floor. Books are due back in 28 days.
