The United States Economy
Economic Report of the President:.
Includes the Annual Report of the President's Council of Economic Advisors and the Administrations projections and goals for the U.S. economy. Includes extensive statistical tables of U.S. economic data.

Congress passed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 to bring the United States' economy out of recession. The federal site that monitors the effects of the legislation is Recovery.gov. Several non-governmental sites also track the federal recovery efforts, among them are Bailout Watch and the website for The Coalition for an Accountable Recovery.

California

The California Channel streams press conferences held by California government officials, activity on the floor of the California Senate and Assembly, and legislative committee meetings.

California's Legislative Analyst's Office provides analysis of government proposals. This includes proposed legislation, initiatives, and budgets.

California's Reporting Transparency site provides access to California's governmental fiscal information.

The Official California Legislative Information is maintained by California's Legislative Council and includes bill information.

California's Official site promotes the state, while the Office of the Governor chronicles his activities and policies and the site for the California State Legislature http://www.legislature.ca.gov/ provides information on the legislature, its committees and a database of legislation.


Health and Safety

Center for Disease Control offers information on health threats that might impact people in the United States. The site includes a section on emergency preparedness and response. and the page on pandemics includes a link to PandemicFlu.gov.

The California Emergency Management Agency includes links (under "Preparedness") for emergency preparedness plans and publications and Senator Barbara Boxer's website has a section on Earthquake preparedness.

The Library of Congress has a page of links to selected sites that provide terrorism information, and the U.S. Government Accountability Office has a list of links to documents, reports, and testimony on terrorism. Westpoint's Combating Terrorism Center includes some interesting reports. The F.B.I. has a counterterrorism page. The State Department publishes Country Reports on Terrorism.

Housing

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development offers information on the homeowner programs funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

The Center for Housing Policy updates Paycheck to Paycheck, a report that compares wages with the cost of housing in the United States.

The Joint Center for Housing Studies publishes reports on the housing market.

International Relations

Obama Today is a blog maintained as part of the America.gov site. The site is produced by the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of International Information Programs and offers information on U.S. foreign policy.

Department of State provides news on the foreign policy of the United States and the activities of our diplomats (including The Secretary of State)..

The major foreign policy actions of the United States are recorded in the State Department publication Foreign Relations of the United States (FRUS). Information about the series is available from the State Department.

Selected volumes from 1945-1968 are available through the State Department's FRUS site.
Many volumes from 1861-1958/1960 have been digitized by the University of Wisconsin.
Some issues of FRUS and earlier documents have been digitized through the GoogleDocs project and are available through the Hathi Trust Catalog (search "United States Dept. of State" AND "foreign relations of the United States"). Results may be sorted by date.

United States House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs includes news from the Committee and transcripts of hearings.

United States Senate Committee on Foreign Relations includes links to press releases and transciprts of hearings.
