Welcome
THANK
YOU for visiting
the homepage of California State University, San Bernardino's library. It
is our great pleasure to welcome you to the John M. Pfau Library and hope
that you find the information you need to conduct your research and studies.
The Pfau Library is part of CSUSB's Division of Academic Affairs.
When California State College, San Bernardino first offered classes in September
1965, the library contained 50,000 volumes and was located in one of the
three original buildings. In June 1971, we moved into the library
and classroom building located in what was to be the heart of campus.
In 1981, this building was named in honor of the founding president, John
M. Pfau. In 1994, construction of a 49,205-square-foot addition was
completed, and a seismic retrofit project for the original building drew
to a close in summer 1998.
The 500,000th volume was added in 1991 and today the library contains more
than 610,000 books, bound periodicals, and other print items. Various
other collections augment the books: music scores, microforms, maps, audio
CDs, art prints, etc. Special facilities include photo-duplicating
machines, microfilm readers, a map room, individual study carrels, group
study rooms, multimedia carrels, a K-12 curriculum collection, and the Info
Den. Our electronic resources include the online catalog and a network
of online databases. Most of the electronic resources can be accessed
from off campus by our faculty, staff and currently enrolled students.
We continue to work on the identification and application of new computer
technology to improve library services.
Our goal is to meet our patrons' information needs both in paper and electronic
formats, both inside and outside its walls, as it continues to support curricular
and research needs of the campus. Information seekers should be able to
access data from inside the library, from campus offices, from residences,
and from satellite campuses located at a distance. Retrievable information
should encompass everything available in the bibliographic and intellectual
world, not just what our library owns.
Our purpose is to provide the best services possible to our faculty, staff
and students and to those in our community and within technical, legal and
financial limitations. We look forward to serving you and welcome
your comments and suggestions.
