PeriodicalsThe east side of the third floor houses all the paper copies of the library's periodicals (magazines, journals, and newspapers).
Current Periodicals (recent issues) are directly behind the original elevators. Bound Periodicals (back issues in hardcover volumes) are on the shelves to the east (left, as you exit the elevators). All are in alphabetical order by title. Bound Periodicals cannot be checked out, but photocopiers are nearby. Recent newspapers are located on the 1st floor (older newspapers are usually replaced with microfilm copies). Keep in mind that the library has 1,600 periodical titles in paper, but about 15,000 periodicals online -- which are invisible unless you know where to look for them! To find out if the library has a specific periodical, look up the title in the Library Catalog or the Electronic Journals list. If you are having difficulty in locating a specific periodical issue, you may ask for assistance at the Reference Desk. Sometimes periodicals may be found near the photocopiers on the first or third floors of the Library. Specific periodicals may also be located on "shelving carts" either behind the Circulation Desk -- these are intermediate locations where materials are held until they can be reshelved. There may also be instances where periodicals are checked out, in these cases, please consult a staff member to verify the status of specific periodicals. Other useful tips: this library does not use call numbers for most of his periodicals (instead, the periodicals are arranged in alphabetical order by their titles); when looking for periodicals, note that you are actually searching first for the title of the publication, such as " The Journal of Marketing." One will also need to ignore beginning articles (such as "a," "an," or "the") when looking for these on the shelves (in the preceding example, one will go to the shelves that begin with "J," for "Journal of Marketing." Current, unbound periodical issues may be checked out. Bound (older) periodicals may only be checked out by CSUSB faculty or their designees. The staff at the Reference Desk is trained to assist you in
locating specific issues of periodicals. For research assistance, please
consult the librarians at the Reference Desk. The current periodicals area is being reorganized. The following titles have moved to the first floor featured magazines area.
