Electronic
Reserves
What
is Electronic Reserves?
Electronic Reserves
is a web based application designed to enhance access to Reserves materials.
Electronic Reserves offers a complete list of all materials kept at the
Reserves Desk, and also allows students to view or print selected full
text material submitted by faculty to assist in classroom instruction.
Faculty must specifically
request that their Reserves items be available full text online. Only
short items such as quizzes, notes, or articles can be scanned and placed
online. Entire books cannot be placed online. (See Fair
Use Guidelines for Electronic Reserves.)
Electronic Reserves
items are in PDF format. You will need the free Adobe
Acrobat Reader to view or print items in PDF format.
The Library policy
for Electronic Reserves is taken from the fair use provisions of United
States Copyright Act of 1976. Electronic Reserves is restricted to CSUSB
students, faculty, and staff.

Faculty
Guidelines for Submitting Materials for Electronic Reserves
The Pfau
Library now provides access to the full text of some of the material
placed on Electronic Reserves. The Reserve staff will scan quizzes, exams,
homework solutions, lecture notes, study guides, and other related material.
(These usually originate from CSUSB courses and faculty.)
- Instructors must complete
a Faculty Electronic Reserve
Form (PDF) to accompany the items submitted and have it
signed, dated, and submitted to the Reserve Desk.
- If more than 1 chapter of a
copyrighted book OR 3 or more articles in a single journal are being used,
please fill-in the Draft Letter
to Publisher (PDF), give a copy to the
reserve desk and then mail a copy to the publisher or copyright holder.
- When placing student papers
on reserve, the Permission to
Place Student Works in CSUSB Library Reserves Form (PDF)
must be submitted with items.
- All forms are available
at the Reserve Desk and from the links on this web page.
- Please make a photocopy of the
book chapter(s) or the article(s). Make sure the photocopies are clear
and have no smudges.
- Requests should be received
1 to 2 weeks before the start of a class. Allow
72 hours for processing. Please take this into consideration
when giving class assignments. All reserve materials are processed in
order of the date and time of receipt, no exceptions.
- In accepting materials for
Reserve use, the library staff believes that such materials are in compliance
with the Fair Use provision of the U.S. Copyright law. A copy of the
Fair Use Guidelines for Electronic Reserves is held
at the Reserve Desk and is also available below.
- It is the responsibility
of the faculty member to obtain the necessary copyright clearances before
materials are processed for Electronic Reserves.
